Engines & Horsepower
GMC Sierra 1500: Shoppers can
find four different engines, rear- or four-wheel drive, and two transmission
options. While the base engine offers up to 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet
of torque, a torque-rich light-duty diesel provides 305 horsepower and 495
pound-feet of torque. You can also expect two V8s: a 355-horsepower V8 and a
420-horsepower V8.
Ford F-150: The Ford F-150 also
offers four engine configurations, including a 430-horsepower twin-turbocharged
V6 hybrid option. The base engine provides 325 horsepower from a
twin-turbocharged V6, another twin-turbocharged V6 makes 400 horsepower, and
the sole V8 makes 400 horsepower. When comparing gas engines only, the GMC has
more natural horsepower available.
Capability
GMC Sierra 1500: The GMC Sierra
1500 offers up to 13,300 pounds of towing capacity and a payload rating of
2,200 pounds for Englewood, NJ, jobs. Those numbers are very close to what the
F-150 offers.
Ford F-150: For towing capacity,
expect 13,500 pounds for the Ford F-150, just 200 pounds more than what the GMC
provides. Similarly, expect a payload rating of 2,455 pounds, just 255 pounds
more than the GMC. Regardless of which truck you choose, you can count on high
capacities.
Interior
GMC Sierra 1500: The GMC Sierra
1500 impresses with its premium interior offerings like full-grain leather
seats and real wood trim on the Denali trim. Expect niceties like available
10-way power-adjustable front bucket seats and smart storage options like the
available rear under-seat storage, large lower lockable glove box, and upper
glove box.
Ford F-150: The Ford F-150 can
offer some premium features like the GMC Sierra. Find an available Interior
Work Surface that folds out from the center console, has lockable storage, and
has under-seat storage. However, expect more options and more well-rounded
interior features in the GMC.
Technology
GMC Sierra 1500: The GMC Sierra
pampers its drivers with an available 13.4-inch touch screen, which includes
standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and built-in Google software.
Also expect an available 12-speaker Bose stereo system for your regular rides
around East Rutherford, NJ.
Ford F-150: The Ford F-150 falls
short of the GMC's larger infotainment system, only offering a 12-inch screen.
The Ford also offers an available Bang & Olufsen system, but it only
features up to eight speakers.
Off-Roading
GMC Sierra 1500: The GMC Sierra
offers some seriously capable off-roading with the AT4 and AT4X trims. Expect a
two-inch factory lift, Rancho monotube shocks, a two-speed Autotrac transfer
case, and underbody skid plates, among many other items.
Ford F-150: The Ford F-150
offers solid off-roading through the Ford F-150, but it offers that capability
across three different trims: the Raptor, Raptor R, and Tremor. If you do not
want to fuss over features you may or may not need, the GMC is the better
pick.
